Equine and Portrait Art by Liane Home

Liane Kerting-Vick has had a passion for horses since she was 6 years old. Already drawing and painting well around age 9, she proceeded to instruct “horse anatomy” classes in the basement of the apartment building where her family lived during her father’s military career. Her dream came true when she got her first horse at age 11. Most of that time was spent riding like a jockey or running barrels around baseball diamonds, but there were quiet moments too, under the shade of the Colorado Aspen groves.
After studying foreign languages, art and art history at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado, raising a family and moving over 26 times….life finally began to slow down a little. She was able to begin painting again. Later she continued her art studies at the University of Montana in Missoula. At that time, she owned and managed a gallery with her husband, Richard, in Missoula, Montana. 12 years later, they sold everything and moved to Boise, Idaho.
At this point in time, and 30 years later, she has once again returned to the dream of owning horses and has never looked back. Sharing her life with these magnificent animals once more has re-awakened the desire to paint them again. Her goal is to capture the essence of the horse which embodies both the courage and the spirit of the man and the beauty and grace of the woman. This has also brought her to better understand why women are so captivated by horses.
